At Children of Cameroon, we’re lucky to meet some truly remarkable young people — and every so often, someone comes along whose determination and ability stop us in our tracks.
Aberltine is one of those people.

She’s just completed Upper Sixth Form (Year 13), an incredible achievement for any student — but especially for a young woman growing up in a rural area of Cameroon, where access to education is limited and daily life is often shaped by conflict and uncertainty.
We met Aberltine in early 2024. She was 19, living in Belo with her grandmother and younger sisters. Life has never been simple for her — raised by her grandmother, displaced by the Anglophone Crisis, and facing ongoing financial struggles, there were many points at which school could have easily slipped out of reach.
But Aberltine refused to give up.
When school closures forced her to pause her education, she found a way to return. When exam fees became unaffordable, she waited. And when sponsorship became available through our charity, she used that support to complete her final years of school — always with one goal in mind:
“I want to be someone who can save lives, give comfort to the sick, and even support them. I want to be useful to my community.”
Now, Aberltine has been offered a place at the University of Bamenda to train as a nurse — her long-held dream.
We couldn’t be prouder.
And we couldn’t be more determined to help her take this next step.

Why We’re Fundraising
University tuition in Cameroon isn’t free — and while Aberltine’s sponsors have done so much already, we’re now asking for help from our wider community to raise £700 to cover her first year of university.
This includes tuition, entrance exams, registration, and essential materials.
Every penny will go directly to Aberltine’s education — and in return, we’ll be sharing regular updates on how she’s getting on at university and how she continues to support others.
She’s already committed to volunteering each week, helping younger students with their reading and schoolwork as part of her way of giving back.
“I am promising you that I will not let you down. I will work hard, and make you proud.”
We believe her. And we believe this is a chance to help someone with both the ability and the heart to change lives.
