🌿 “To change their stories...”

Azandra’s Dream to Build a Tailoring Workshop — and Give Back

At Children of Cameroon, we meet inspiring young people every day — those whose strength and dreams light the way despite the toughest challenges. One such young woman is Azandra, a 23-year-old whose journey has been shaped by hardship, hope, and an unwavering determination to build a better future.

“I am called Azandra. My dream was to become a nurse, but now I see myself becoming a seamstress by vocation. I hope to be a self-established seamstress in the years to come.”

When Azandra first connected with Children of Cameroon in 2022, she had already endured more than many do in a lifetime. The Anglophone Crisis had taken her father’s life, destroyed her family home, and forced her to pause her schooling while struggling to survive.

“There were moments we stayed in the forest under the rains for days, running away from armed men… There were times we ran to neighbouring villages and went for days without shelter or food.”

Yet, through every hardship, Azandra’s spirit remained unbroken.

“I have been a hardworking girl since I was delivered.”

Thanks to the support of her sponsor, Azandra was able to return to school and sit her GCE exams, progressing from Form Three to Form Five. Along the way, a new passion blossomed: tailoring.

“In 2017, when there were no schools, I joined friends to attend a tailoring workshop. I fell in love with working with fabric and clothing because it makes people look handsome and beautiful. To this day, I dream of becoming a seamstress.”

Now, Azandra is on the cusp of turning that dream into reality. With just £490, we can provide the tools and support she needs to train as a seamstress and launch her own tailoring workshop.

But her dream is bigger than just making a living. Azandra wants to help others like her:

“I dream of working with many young people with similar life stories to train and empower them if I establish a tailoring workshop — to change their stories.”

In a friendly agreement with Children of Cameroon, Azandra has promised to train young people from our programme who want to learn tailoring. Your support doesn’t just change one life — it creates opportunities for many.

“If I have my own workshop, I will be able to take care of myself without depending on others, as well as support my family and community.”

Azandra is full of gratitude and hope:

“Things that once felt far away are coming true. It makes me happy and more determined knowing that people are supporting me to achieve my dreams and aspirations.”
